5 Sessions Spread Over the Day Cover:
Electronic Content Delivery and Digital Storage
This session explores the evolving requirements of traditional and non-traditional content electronic delivery markets. This includes video on demand, cable and satellite distribution and network distribution. It also explores digital storage opportunities in video and content downloading and social networking.
Storage for Professional Content Editing and Post Production
This session explores direct attached, networked storage as well as grid and other advanced storage architectures to support non-linear editing, post production and content capture and creation.
Digital Storage for Archiving and Preservation
This session explores the expanding options for digital storage for content preservation and archiving. Long term retention of content is a big driver of storage growth in the media and entertainment industry and includes remote storage as well as on-site options with various physical storage media.
Case Study: Digital Storage in the Visual Effects Society Awards
In 2008, the Visual Effects Society created a complete awards submission digital ingest, presentation and evaluation workflow for its annual Awards program featuring submissions from visual effects practitioners from around the world. This included online submissions from anywhere in the world, electronic transfer for nominations, as well transcoding the content into 5 different resolutions of Windows media and 5 different Quicktime resolutions to support remote viewing and voting on 25 categories of awards. Nearly 300 entries were submitted and 96 entries overall were nominated.
The storage system used supported secure access. This workflow greatly enhanced the entire process from submissions, to vetting and on to the nominations and to the final Online View and Vote where members could view the nominees in HD as well as at lower bit rates. This panel will discuss the methodologies used to set up the entire process, including storage requirements, through to the secure viewing and voting system and the final tabulations until the envelopes were opened onstage at the Awards.Content for the Consumer
This session explores the requirements that consumers have for digital content now and in the future. Future demand requires content availability from many sources: physical content distribution, electronics distribution through the web, traditional electronic content distribution. Find out about the future use of content by the ultimate end users.
